Over the next few weeks I have a few physical books on my list, and a few audiobooks, as well. Lately I’ve been spending a lot of my free time on crafting, so my hands and eyes are typically otherwise occupied. But I’ve been making it a point to use my “next-up” audiobooks to fill some of the silences, rather than relying on Netflix or Disney+!
The physical books I’m aiming to read next are:
Well Met by Jen DeLuca is about a girl who accidentally volunteers at a RenFaire with her niece and (probably) falls in love. The premise was too cute, and having been to the granddaddy of “renfaires” a few times in my life I was like, “Yes, OK, fine – I need to read this silly romcom.” I hope it’s as cute as it has the potential to be!
A Heart So Fierce and Broken by Brigid Kemmerer made this month’s rotation because someone on one of the book-ish Facebook groups I’ve joined just finished reading A Curse So Dark and Lonely (book 1 of the series) and posted a review full of heart eyes and happiness. Also because Jaelithe recently finished A Heart and was like, “Don’t you have the second one?? Reeeeead it!!!” So. I’m going to read it!
Hey, look – our friend Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid is back! I keep picking her up – and last week I actually read the first 3 pages, but then I got distracted by my cross stitch. 😉 One of these days, though, I’m going to get into this one, so I’m keeping her handy.
And the audiobooks on the list this time are:
The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis is currently on my phone and I started listening to it yesterday. This is a book I’ve read before, but it’s been a very long time. When I finished my last audiobook I was still on the waitlist for several books through Overdrive, so I turned to Hoopla to see what they were recommending (since their books are immediately available for download, no wait lists). After a few scrolls this gem showed up and I thought, “Yes, it has been a long time, let’s do that one.” It’s like a cozy blanket. (Maybe this time, Edmund won’t be an idiot!)
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman Overdrive thinks I’m next up for this one! Back when we could wander Target mindlessly I had a copy of this one in my hands and ended up not getting it at that time. I honestly don’t know much about this book other than it’s about socially awkward / outsider types, and that there has been a bit of buzz about it. I’m looking forward to seeing what it’s about.
The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin has been on my mental list since my mother read it last summer. Overdrive says I’ll be able to give it a listen after 2 more people have their turn, so I’m hoping it will hit the rotation, soon. My book list last year included quite a few books about bookstores and libraries, so this one should fit right in with those! This one is about a man who owns a book store where a woman leaves her toddler behind with a note asking for the child to be brought up among books and people who care about such things, and then… Well, I guess I’ll find out!
What’s on your list these days? Have you read anything recently that you think I would like? Have you read any of the books on my TBR? If you did, please share your (non-spoilery) thoughts, below!
